About

Written by people who had to build one of these from scratch.

StratoSMS came out of the work of putting a real Part 135 Safety Management System together for a small helicopter operator.

What we learned

Most SMS software is built for airlines

It assumes a safety department, a training department and a records department. A four-person operator has none of those.

The manual is the easy half

Anyone can produce a document. Producing the evidence that you ran the system every week is the real work.

Field tools have to be fast

If reporting a hazard takes ten minutes on a ramp in July, nobody reports anything.

Pilots already keep records

The logbook is the one thing every pilot maintains faithfully. It should do more of the arithmetic for them.

What we will not do

  • Claim to be FAA approved or certified software, or promise a certification outcome
  • Tell you that your flight time makes you legally eligible for anything
  • Silently overwrite a safety, compliance or logbook record
  • Let one company's data appear in another company's account
  • Write a procedure into your manual that the software cannot actually perform
